Monitoring from multiple regions
By default a monitor is checked from one location. But "the site is down for me" and "the site is down everywhere" are different things. Elerio can check a single target from several regions and decide what counts as an incident based on a rule you set.
How to enable
In the monitor form, select the regions you want (the available regions are listed there) and choose an aggregation rule.
Aggregation rules
- any (default) — an incident only if the target is unreachable from all selected regions. A local glitch in one location won't raise a false alarm.
- all — an incident if the target is unreachable from at least one region. The strictest mode.
- quorum — an incident based on the majority of regions.
When regions disagree, the monitor shows the Partial state, and the monitor page breaks down the status by each region.
"Reachable only from a specific region" mode
Combining regions with the all rule gives a scenario most services don't offer: "the target must be reachable from this exact region". For example, a government or local service that by law must work from Kazakhstan — you'll notice if it stops opening from there, even when the rest of the world is fine.
